Mmm, Crimey...
Last night the side window of my neighbor's pickup was shattered, sometime between 9:30 and 10:30 pm, when the police were called. They were called again at 11, and my neighbor was told that she "was the next one in line" because there had been an armed robbery downtown with an unconscious victim, and some other crime had occurred as well.
There was no evidence that it was anything but vandalism, as the door was still locked and the ignition had not been messed with. An officer finally showed up at midnight and was gone within 5 minutes. He does, however, win the Central District Penmanship Award, as his claim is the first I've seen that doesn't look like it was written on someone else's back by a 4th-grader.
We taped some plastic inside the window to try to minimize the glass that was already all over the seat, and went inside after the police left.
Yesterday around 6 pm, another neighbor was riding his bike to Rite-Aid and made the mistake of riding between some children at the bus stop; they started hitting him and trying to take his bike, but scattered when "a white guy" yelled at them. He called the police, but got tired of waiting for them after an hour. Too bad, because I'm sure they came RIGHT AFTER THAT, and his pizza would've been free.
